MANICURING

(Currently not enrolling.)

Our manicuring course prepares the student in all phases of manicuring and pedicuring, artificial nail placement, business development, disinfection and sanitation. Retail product knowledge to enhance the technical service.

The manicuring course of study is comprised of a five-month (5) + program, consisting of 600 clock hours. Students have a standard 5-month completion time.

Each of the subjects listed below will be covered in the theory and practical work.

Course outline modules of instruction shall include but not be limited to the following:

Scientific/Theory/Concepts: Orientation, Basic Human Physiology, Nail Composition, Chemistry, Sanitizing and Sterilization, Safety and Infection Control, Louisiana Cosmetology Act and Rules and Regulation, Electricity, Nail Diseases and Disorders, Nail Structure and Growth, Skin Structure and Growth, Nail Product Chemistry.  

Technical Modules: Supplies and Implements, Artificial and Natural Nail Technology, Manicure, Pedicure, Basic Massage Application and Repair of Artificial and Natural Nails, Nail Art, State Board Procedure for Testing.

Business Development: Business Management, Career Portfolio, Resume writing, Salon Laws, Interview skills, Career Management, Retail  Product Use and Sales, Preparing and Consulting Clientele, Salon Integration, Personal Empowerment Skills, and State Regulations. 

**Manicuring course will prepare the student in the technical, personal and business skills need to prepare you for the state licensing examination and for gainful employment in the manicuring industry

MAKE-UP ARTISTRY

Our makeup artistry course prepares the student in all phases of make-up. Each student will be prepared for the written and practical examination given by À jour Académie. After completion of 40 hours and passing of written and clinical examination a Make-up Artistry licensure will be issued by the Louisiana State Board of Cosmetology

Each of the subjects listed below will be covered in the theory and practical work.

Course outline modules of instruction shall include but not be limited to the following:

Theory: Orientation, consultation, make-up history, facial cosmetics and purpose, Safety and sanitation, skin tones, skin care, career opportunities / portfolio building, eyebrow shaping, face shapes, corrective make-up, age appropriate make-up, bridal make-up, high fashion make-up, editorial make-up (high-definition, lightening concepts), evening make-up, professional make-up.

Technical Modules: Make-up application: corrective make-up, age appropriate make-up, bridal make-up, high fashion make-up, editorial make-up (high-definition, lightening concepts), evening make-up, professional make-up.

**Makeup Artistry course will prepare the student in the technical skills needed to prepare you for gainful employment in the makeup industry.

COSMETOLOGY

Our cosmetology course prepares the student in all phases of advanced hair, nails, skin, and business development. Each student will be prepared for the written and practical examination for the Louisiana State Board of Cosmetology.

The Cosmetology course of study is comprised of a twelve-month (12) + program, consisting of 1500 clock hours. Students have a standard required 12-month completion time.

Each of the subjects listed will be covered in the theory and practical work course outline modules of instruction shall include but not be limited to the following:

Scientific/Theory/Concepts: Orientation, Infection Control, OSHA Requirements, Human Physiology, Chemical Principles, Anatomy and Physiology, Anatomy of Hair, Scalp and Nails, Electricity, State Laws, Career Information, First Aid, Professional Image, Health and Safety, Hair Color Principles.

Technical Modules: Shampoo, Draping, Rinses and Conditioners, Scalp Massage, Facials, Make-up, Manicuring, Pedicuring, Artificial Nails, Waxing, Wet Styling, Blow-drying, Finger Waving, State Board Mechanics, Hair shaping, Hair Cutting, Advanced Finishing techniques, Industry Trends, Alternative Hair Styling, Color Placements and Procedures, Chemical Texture Services. 

Business Development: Business Management, Career Portfolio, Resume writing, Salon Laws, Interview skills, Career Management, Retail: Product Use and Sales, Preparing and Consulting Clientele, Salon Integration, Personal Empowerment Skills, and State Regulations.

COSMETOLOGY INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

Our instructor training course prepares the licensed cosmetologist with the tools necessary to pass the state licensing examination. Students will learn the science of teaching methods and how to properly facilitate in a classroom setting.

The instructor course of study is comprised of a five-month (5) + program, consisting of 600 clock hours. A minimum of one year salon experience is required to enroll in the instructor training course.

Each of the subjects listed below will be covered in the theory and practical work.

Course outline shall include but not be limited to the following:

Theory/Concepts: Orientation, Teaching Methods Classroom Preparation, Effectiveness of Instruction Purpose and Types of Tests, Selection of Appropriate Testing Methods, Validity and Reliability of Teaching Methods through Testing, Lesson Plan Development, Presentation Techniques, Student/Salon Clinic Management, Assessment of Student Ability/Achievement/Learning, Student Diagnosis, Evaluations, Academic Advising, Supervision and Control, Regulatory Requirements.

Technical Modules: Advanced Training Techniques, Master skills necessary to teach advanced hair designing, Proper State Board Requirements for Student Examination, Student Teaching Effectiveness and Exercises.

**Upon graduation and licensing you will be qualified to teach full or part- time in a licensed school.
